SOM’s interiors studio is seeking an interior architectural professional job captain to work under the general supervision of an architect in the design development, construction documents and construction administration phases of interiors projects.

Duties and responsibilities:
– prepare design development and construction documents
– coordinate the work of consultants and core and shell building design teams
– assist in solving complex problems in connection with the design of large and small projects
– assist in reviewing RFI’s, shop drawings and material samples and preparing field observation reports during construction phase
– may assist in overseeing work of junior staff
– other duties as assigned

– four-year architectural or interior design degree
– six or more years of professional experience with at least two years as a job captain with a strong background in corporate and complex interiors projects
– extensive experience in preparing construction documents
– experience with building departments, permitting process and procedures
– experience in coordinating the work of other disciplines, including structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, lighting design, etc
– working knowledge of building codes and LEED requirements
– working knowledge of interior architecture detailing
– experience in reviewing submittals and RFIs and documenting field observations during construction phase
– experience in coordinating the work of core and shell building design teams
– general knowledge of interior design practice, including programming, space planning, and FF&E
– proficiency in AutoCAD and Revit
– progress toward licensing or interior designer certification
– excellent communication, problem solving, and organisational skills
